Having been started in the early 1990s, the Food and Beverage department has been growing steadily.Currently, it has a student population of 170 and a dedicated , qualified formidable team of 14 lecturers and 1 technician. The department offers its courses at three levels i.e Diploma, Craft Certificate and the recently introduced Artisan level that caters for students who had previously been left out as they did not qualify for the other levels.

We are proud of our past graduates from the different levels who have taken up various positions in the catering and hospitality industry. Some are working in hotels and restaurants as chefs, waiters, supervisors and managers. Others are employed in the catering departments of schools, hospitals and colleges. After qualifying in the diploma course students are eligible to join the Kenya Technical Training Teachers College, where they graduate and join the teaching profession.

In the department entrepreneurship education is a mandatory subject thus all our students are usually well trained and prepared for self employment. We also encourage our students to further their training from one level to another as qualification in one level makes a student eligible to join the next. Our diploma graduates also join the universities that offer degrees in technical courses such as Kenya Polytechnic University College, moi University, and Kenyatta University among others. With our recently opened ultra modern training facility we promise to continue offering quality training to our students. As we look forward to scaling greater heights in the future, the sky is the limit for the Food and Beverage Department

The clothing technology department is in the Fashion Design Industry. The department targets trainees who have a desire to work as Fashion Designers in Fashion Designers Houses, Managers, Supervisors, Textile Designers, Controllers/Checkers, Fashion Merchandisers, Operator Trainers, Garment Cutters and CAD Designers in garment making firms or Wardrobe Managers for V.I.Ps.

The trainees are exposed to computer skills in order to help them cope with the changing technology.They are also exposed to industrial attachment in order to make our training relevant for the market demand. The department exposes the trainees to other important skills like entrepreneurship, fabric decoration, soft furnishing and detergent making in order to prepare them to compete favorably in self employment market

Nkabune Technical Training Institute is a public tertiary institution under the Ministry of Higher Education Science and Technology, it is ISO9001:2008 Certified. This was prompted by the ever rising customer expectations and an increasing desire for offering quality services. The same desire provides an encouraging back ground for implementing the quality management system.

The institution has embraced the quality management system since it is was certified; so far, more than five surveillance audits have been conducted by Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and the institution has maintained the certification and this is as a result of continual improvement.

Currently we are at an advanced stage  in  transiting from ISO 9001:2008 to ISO 9001:2015

Implementation of quality management system has helped us operate efficiently, achieve customer satisfaction, improve on performance, satisfy stakeholders and secure sustainability. It is our hope that we will continue growing as an institution and continue implementing the quality

The guidance and Counseling department was established in January 2008. Guided by the vision to bring positive change to the youth, it has come a long way in guiding and empowering them within the institute and its neighborhood. The department is run by the guidance and counseling coordinator, assistant coordinator and team of 12 committee members.Trained student peer educators are part of this team and act as the linkage between the department and the students.

Various activities are planned and coordinated in this department such as health talks, behavior change communication talks, voluntary counseling and testing of HIV. Health and social issues have always emerged whenever we have the planned talks and even during the VCTs. And this had made us realize that talks alone without providing the services leave the students with more questions than answers to problems affecting them and hence services to handle gynecological issues have also been incorporated into the program.


It is also important to note that lack of adequate information, for instance on causes of cancer, use of contraceptives and others are issues that need to be addressed seriously noting that students form the larger part of the country’s population and therefore need to be strengthened and empowered with the correct information that will help them make informed choices, avoid peer pressure and be of help to their fellow youth in their home areas when they leave college. With the correct information, the young people are able to take charge of their helath and make wise decisions. The department intends to build capacity of the peer educators and teacher counselors who have been instrumental in the implementation of the planned activities and also APHIA PLUS KAMILI for support in training, outreach activities and sponsoring VCT services.

This office is charged with the responsibility of implementation of performance contract targets by the various target owners. The tasks performed by the office includes, but not limited to the following: monitoring achieved of targets, aligning performance targets to the reviewed strategic plan, preparing the quarterly and annual reports and submitting them to the mother ministry, training the teaching and non –teaching staff on implementation of performance contract, gathering and consolidating evidence and leading in negotiations and evaluations.

In 2008, the Management steered the Institute to develop a five year strategic plan which provided a blueprint for coordinating the institute’s development agenda. The blue print highlighted physical infrastructure development, ICT intergration, environmental development, academic performance an youth social development. With the introduction of performance contracting Nkabune Technical Training Institute aligned its strategic plan with performance contract requirements. The institute signed the performance contract with the Ministry of Higher Education in 2009 to pave way for structured and customer focused development.

The key pillars of the performance contract were Financial Management, Customer satisfaction, Innovation, Environment Management, Automation, vision 2030 flagship projects, Corruption Eradication and Operations geared towards achieving the Institutes’ mandate. The Institute was ranked 5th among Technical Training Institutions in the country in achievement of targets set for the year 2009/2010 and the year 20100/2012, the institute was ranked 3rd in the most sustained Institute in the country. In the same period, the institute received an ISO 9001:2008 certification from Kenya Bureau of Standards. Now, four years after, customers are more satisfied, employees are more productive and collaborative and the Institute is on track in improving service delivery and curriculum implementation.

Surveys are done every year on customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction.Recommendations from these surveys are implemented to improve satisfaction index.According to the surveys, there has been improvement in satisfaction index. The institute service charter is adhered to at different service points and furthermore, the charter is cascaded to various departments in the institute. Implementation of ISO stardards and achievement of performance contracting targets have resulted to continous improvement in infrastructure and service delivery which is in line with the Institutes vision “to be a centre of excellence in TIVET”

The Institute is involved in coming up with solutions to local community problems such as training of local women in preserving local fruits and training youth on internet. The Institute also collaborates with various National agencies including Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology. The future is bright for the Institute having put in place structures for future development



The Department of Business Studies offers both Diploma and craft certificate and business single and group, accounting courses that include CPA and ATC.
